Proselytizing with my convert!!

Dear Family and Friends, May 30, 2011

Well its transfers again and....nobody is changing. haha there is a new area in our zone where we are going to have two new missionaries and then as well one other missionary changed, So nothing much to report on that, we were anticipating a change for us but maybe in 6 weeks again. Anyway I`m glad to hear from so many people this week a big old 0 people wrote me this week.(bad, bad parents) I bet right now you guys are either coming from the lake house or at the lake house! (We were actually home, so even more bad) That’s ok though I expect big letters next week! lol (Thanks for forgiving us) but this week was really great, pretty fun and always has its good days and bad days but a lot of fun. one baptism this week and it was AMAZING, she was so happy and after she said in her testimony that she now wants her family to learn more and follow as well. We have an appointment with her daughter this week. We had a really fun time with her at the baptism and she is so funny we were taking pictures with like peace signs and funny stuff as well.

We had another awesome experience this week, we had that knocking doors activity with our ward and it was great fun and we got a ton of references for the other missionaries in our ward. (this next month we are going to do the same thing but in our area) But you all know Fam. Ortega but the father Cesar came to the activity and I worked it out so I was with him in his group and we went to this area and started knocking doors with him and with another returned missionary who is cool. And I mean he was telling me before how nervous he was and stuff but when we started knocking he was pretty chill and we were teaching a quick lesson and when we finish the sister had a question/concern, she was like "all I have heard about the Mormons is they have a lot of money" and we all kind of laughed especially me because this was the same thing Cesar said before, so I let him tell her how he felt about this and that it really isn`t like that at all. and he started testifying to her about the church and that he knew it was true and everything and it was a great experience for me to be teaching and seeing my convert testifying about the church and continuing the to spread the gospel in his own area. I got some awesome pictures as well and it was awesome I loved it.

Besides that I`ve just been having a wonderful time with my companion and we are just loving this time and we are seeing the fruits of our labors. I LOVE THIS GOSPEL!!!!

Anyway have a great time and hope the picnic goes well today and tell everything that the water slide idea on the hill started with me!!!

love you all and remember sharing your testimony the most powerful thing we have, We only have one weapon of attack and that is the sword of the Spirit!

Con mucho amor,

Elder Corbett

... at least I got it posted in a timely manner this week. I think if I have to make a choice in posting a letter or writing to him, I better write next time.

getting colder!

A few pictures that he sent home.

He is a handsome happy missionary!

Dear Family and friends, May 23, 2011

Well everyone, this week went by pretty fast. I learned a ton this week; I had a work visit from a zone leader and so that was a lot of fun being able to work with a white person for a while so that was interesting and fun. We have been having a ton of success with new people this week, one reference already attended church and has a baptismal date and others are really interested. We didn`t have a baptism this week but we are going to have 2 this weekend hopefully if we can get in all of their teaching. The one had some doubts about it and she just didn`t feel quite ready yet but she is awesome and knows it’s true (she probably said that about 5 times the last visit). We also have another younger girl that's 22 and has a boyfriend in the church and they want to get married and sealed and so this Sat. it will be awesome with them and she can feel this awesome power of the atonement in her life through baptism. Also I`m pretty excited this sat. in the morning we are going to have an awesome activity with the whole ward and go knock doors. We have a area we have never really explored much but we are going with the whole ward to knock doors in that area. Why don`t you guys do something like that it would be awesome and like a million references for the missionaries and really put them to work hard. They would have so many people they wouldn`t know what to do! And with that the members then want to help with the people that they contacted because they felt the joy of this work so you`ll get a report next week on how that goes. I heard this ward had done that in the past and was really successful and so we will see!!! I`m excited.

Sounds like the school year is winding down and that's really good and summer is coming, well for me the cold is starting to creep in and take us but it hasn`t been to cold I just really want my jacket because it will be perfect for how it is here. But it’s nice and calm around 4 o`clock, the sad part is for probably the next 3 or 4 months we are going to have nothing but clouds and no sun. :-( but that's ok that's not the important part.

I`m glad so many people wrote me this week it’s always a real pleasure to hear from you guys individually, sorry it’s hard to write back all the time but I`ll keep trying and love you all and thanks for your prayers we will see if I get some other crazy responsibility next week with transfers. I have one missionary in my district who is going to die this next week and go back home and he was doing really really well until this last week when he became a little trunky but I couldn`t imagine having only a week left then I`d be in my house. I just started and I`m already 1/4 done. that is crazy. Oh yeah and about that I burnt a tie as well and so when I get those pictures I`ll show you guys it was really fun and some really cool pics.

Anyways love you all and thanks for your prayers and concerns!

6 MONTHS!!!!

Dear Family and friends, May 16, 2011

So tomorrow I complete 6 months in my mission. WOW time is fast and all I have to do now is serve a sister mission. haha that makes it sound so long. lol but when I told my companion that he said he`s going to call me sister Corbett now for the rest of my mission. He is funny.

Well this week has been a little slow I felt like and a little hard to be honest. I did have a lot of fun this week with my companion and we laughed a ton at different things, Peru is crazy and has some of the weirdest people. I can`t give Peru the justice it deserves you have to come and see it for yourself, it’s just funny this area. I think I`m going to be in this area for a while longer. The president in his letter to the mission said that the senior companion is usually in his area for at least 6 to 8 months and I just about have 4 months here so I could have a ton more time. My first transfer here I told my papa that I felt like I was going to have 4 transfers here and now I`m almost done with 3 so maybe that's saying something. But this week we have been having a lot of success in finding people to teach but it’s harder to get people to attend church because where we are finding people is far from church. Noone just has cars to go pick them up and so they have to pay for their entire family to get to the church in a taxi. It’s complicated but I really want to figure out a plan that we can get them to church and get more people learning about this gospel because there is a special spirit to the church and that's where we receive revelation for ourselves and that's when people really learn this church is true as well; first on their knees and next in the chapel.

This past week the president attended our district meeting and it was just great and he is so amazing and smart, the best mission president in the whole world!! I promise and if you don`t believe me, you haven`t meet him. Then this week as well we had interviews with him and that was great to talk to him about everything that's been going on and my district but Now tomorrow we get to go to the temple again! WAHOOO!!! I`m so excited to go, it’s going to be awesome. I can`t wait it’s always a real great privilege to refresh the batteries in the house of the lord. Oh and this week, as well, we have another baptism, It’s the one I told you guys about that had the dream about us and she knows this church is true and just is real excited to get baptized and follow this step of the Lord.

Well this week as well in a store I gave them my memory card and they took all the pictures off my camera and put it on my USB I have and so now I can send you some pictures. So here are some awesome pictures as well this week.

Love you and thanks for all your support and prayers sometimes I really need it!

Mothers Day

Dear Family and Friends, May 9, 2011

Well I guess I talked to you all yesterday so this probably won`t be to long but it was so nice talking to you all and hearing your voices again. I can`t believe I have to wait till Christmas to talk to you again, but I can`t believe mother’s day is already past. This whole thing just feels like a dream and before I know it I`ll be home and studying again. Wow they just told me my time is up I guess I wasted to much time reading emails and writing the president. But you all heard me yesterday! My thought for this week is there is a time for everything! Sometimes we think when we have to choose between two things and don`t know which to choose and we pray and pray and ask god for an answer and we just think, I`m just as lost and when I started and I think sometimes if we are doing what is right we can choose either. People always ask the apostles, am I really following the spirit or is it just me? The apostle answered, don`t worry and just do what is right. Just do what’s right and you can sometimes choose either option. There is a time for everything!! And right now for me it is my time to work and get lost! I love you all and hope to hear from you more this next week!

What a crazy week!

What a crazy week!

Dear Friends and Family, May 2, 2011

Well i don`t have much to say today because I don`t have time to say anything because I sent a huge letter to the president and then when I sent it, it didn`t send and so I had to write it all over again and it was just a huge hassle and a lot of time but there were things I needed to tell him.

Anyway we had one baptism this week which went well; we really had 4, 2 for the ward, 1 for the other missionaries, and 1 for us. We only have one ward we work with they work really well with us. Yesterday I went and talked to all the teachers and priests and took down what day they could go with us in the week and so we have someone for every single day and we are going to try and have a member at as many lessons as we can this week. Our goal is 15 lessons with a member!! WAHHOOO! Ummm I did get to baptize one of the little boys that just turned 8 because he wanted me to baptize him. It was really sad though because on our way to prepare for the baptism we took a bus from another ward where I just had 2 interviews and I forgot the bag the bus with 4 baptismal clothes. Typical Elder Corbett, but hey the baptisms rolled forth. It was so sad because I didn`t realize for about 30 mins. and then I was trying to figure out what to do when people were starting to come and this little boy that was so excited to get baptized and I promised I had clothes for him came up to me and said "which clothes are mine?" I wanted to cry because I had lost his clothes! I was almost speechless and I said "we are looking for them right now, don`t worry your baptism will be great!" but I wanted to cry and we found clothes from all over the place and the baptisms rolled forth.

Sorry I`m out of time now but I`m exactly sure what the procedure is for calling me but I was just told you`ll(family) be getting a call from me tonight to set up a time and make sure everything works and we will set up a time to talk next Sunday! ;-) I know its family night but if it’s a weird number please pick up anyway!!!

Love you guys talk to you real soon!!

Love you all and thanks for everything!

Because of your many prayers you need to pray for me more!!!!

Dear Family and Friends, 4/25/11

Well I guess I`ll start off with transfers, any objections? I didn`t think so! so I`m in.....The same area!! haha fooled you, but now my area is half as big and twice as strong. We got 2 more missionaries in our ward so my area is only half of what it used to be, but I have the better half...the ocean!! hahaha I am with the same companion which is fun and great and so nothing really changed EXCEPT....drum roll please....I`m district Leader!! WOO HOO! wow my 3rd transfer and I`m district leader. I think there are too many people praying for me, because my 2nd transfer I was a trainer and now I`m district leader I don`t know what I`m going to do. So now that all your prayers have brought me to this you need to pray for me more because I don`t feel ready to be a district leader yet but hey what the president says-goes! I`ve been on the phone a lot more now and calling my district then after the zone leaders then my district then if they have a question the zone leaders then I have to call them back and blah blah blah blah. I`m so sick of being on the phone and I`ve only been doing this for one week! haha I guess I`ll get used it to it though. I am really nervous but also really excited at the same time.

HAPPY EASTER!!! I kind of forget it was even Easter yesterday because people in the church don`t really do anything here for it. no eggs no bunnies no nothin! But here in Peru last week was called "semana santa" which is like holy week and they do different stuff in the week, but this is the Catholics not us. They watch videos one night that come on the TV at like 10 or 11 at night and then one night at like 7 they did these parades in which they take up the whole street and have big light up statues of the "santos" which I don`t understand at all but they have all their saints that they worship and parade the streets, but for us it was pretty normal, I liked at night before going to bed though reading the Liahona which has a lot about Easter and then I read every account in the Bible (4 right?) that talked about his atonement, crucifixion and resurrection! Which was interesting because I don`t read that bible much and that made me really want to read the New Testament. I`m almost done with D&C though and then I`ll start the bible. After I finish D&C I’ll have finished that and the Book of Mormon on my mission. I have taken so much time to read D&C, but I have been learning a ton.

Oh and mom it doesn`t matter if you tell me what you’re doing in the days because I can do those things when I get back and no big problem, but who can say they were in Peru and walked the beach and saw the beautiful sunsets! ME!!! I feel like you guys should be jealous and sad that you aren`t here, not that I`m not there. ;-) Oh yeah and also in the package I have something I would love for you to send if you can find it. Paper!!! whole punched paper, I have a little binder it is smaller than normal size like probably the paper is I don`t know 3.5 by 6. I`m not exactly sure but If you could find paper with 3 hole punches I would love just tons of it!! Because that’s what I use for notes and so many other things now and would just love to have more paper because they don`t have it here, anywhere!!! It’s hard enough finding regular size paper but that would be wonderful!!

Also this is the week of a competition for you guys. I need an awesome BYU logo that I can put on a sports jersey, Who ever makes the best design wins! It just needs to be a logo that says BYU big on it and it can have a little saying if you want but it has to be AWESOME!!! and maybe with my name but I`m also going to put Corbett on the back. It’s awesome I can buy this from a member for about 6 soles which is like 2 dollars. so I told her I wanted an awesome blue jersey for my university and I`ll get her a logo. but just email it to me and that would be awesome!! haha GO, FIGHT, WIN, COUGARS!!! GRRRAAARRR! LOL I`m having way to much fun haha.

Umm also for Mothers Day mom I`m not sure exactly but it’s one hour on mothers day (5-8-11) I think around 3 or 4 in the afternoon and we get to call a couple days before to set up a time! I`m getting so excited, I think you can call me, that would be great and I`m not sure how exactly the numbers work but I will make sure 100% I have that information next week. My number is 017787101 but I`m not sure how it works yet. I`ll check up on that!

Oh so funny story Ok so I had a meeting Sat. to learn what I`m doing as a district leader and the zone leaders never showed up which was sad but on the way home we got on a bus and in the back was bro. and sis. Ortega, which are the parents of the recently baptized family and they were just coming back from the market (which they used to do on Sunday WOO HOO) and I talked to them and he asked me, We used to call ourselves Catholics, What are we supposed to call ourselves now? haha I just thought it was so funny but I told him use the whole name of the church, "The WHOLE name?" "yeah it’s better that way." But I just thought it was funny, What do we call ourselves, he was like a lost child not knowing what he was called.

Well I`m out of time, but I love you all and thank you all for your prayers and love.

Con Amor,

Elder Carson Corbett
